Once I saw your article, I read the original piece.
It is insulting to all women. To me, it is personal. I have been in tech for over 22 years- long before there was social media, Overture hadn’t been bought by Yahoo, MySpace was still alive and kicking, Google well don’t be evil was still fitting. SaaS wasn’t really a big thing.
I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly in MarTech which still is mainly male dominated while women made strides as well.
This really pisst me off big time.
In behavioral economics, this is called a ‘nudge’. It can be used for good like ‘opting in to pensions when you start a new company so you need to opt out if you don’t want to save for retirement- where the majority of employees stayed opted in’
Or it could be negative- nudging towards the boxes of roles that are demanded or positioned on women for decades now.
We have seen this with engineering, maths and computer science- active nudges for women not to go into these fields.
I am a founding operator at a deep tech manufacturing startup. We operate in a very heavily male dominated vertical. I have to bulldoze my way into every room, and believe me, still hard to penetrate.
So this hits home badly for me.
It is a disgrace if you ask me. Having to be put in a box that you always have to justify your place is hard already.
I follow you not because you're a woman in AI, but because you say the hard things out loud. I've worked in tech for almost ten years, and I've seen too many women placed in senior roles as window dressing, expected to echo the room rather than shape it. Your writing is the opposite of that. Thank you.
Before AI I just had one job as CPTO. Now I am a CPTO, Educator, Coach, Writer and Advisor. I am rich because I lifted the floor and removed the ceiling on what I can earn. What I want from AI is to give women another tool for them to live the way they want to, provide for their family and become what they aspire to become. And for those raising girls, show what’s possible.
I love how much passion you put in this article. I think AI, the way it works today, it empowers people who are creative, who have enough empathy to imagine themselves in someone else’s shoes and who experiment relentlessly. Women are good at this so AI will be an advantage for us. So I wish more women used it to express themselves freely
OMG yes. That article made me so mad! And I couldn't understand why she was devoting this much time on something that Claude or whatever AI tool can already do out of the box today. It's spinning wheels, and insulting and disappointing.
Thanks for sharing your viewpoint on this article and I love all your points (and have more to add). As a woman who founded an AI company 8 years ago, who struggles every day to stay competitive in my industry, to help other women learn more about AI and to keep my home/work life going, this article about a start up that panders to middle America and Dazzle is so condensing to what women can and will do, with just some AI literacy/training.

These ‘extreme’ nudges make it much damn worse!!
YAS. Yes. and more YES. So join me in adding proper nudges to this world please!
Oh tell me what you need, I am there 1000% 💪🏽

Fantastic article, Elena!
Climate change. Let’s make sure there’s still a habitable world left for our children.
Guarantee clean air, water and food as a basic human right.
Access to high quality education shielded from misinformation for all who want it.
Women’s health. So they can live healthy and fulfilling lives without being treated as a walking uterus with limited shelf value.
Design products that take into account the different sizes, shapes, colors and genetics humanity comes in, not just white and male.
LOOOVE!
Thank you! Brilliantly thoughtful!

I am shouting out loud - equitable opportunity, equitable power, equitable representation!
Even louder for people in the back!
Outstanding article!

Women get to do what the men do, plus more.
Like how women can wear pants, and also wear dresses that wouldn't be socially acceptable to be worn by men.
You don't need to say women use ai to create because that's what men do and women always can do what the men do.
